In 1995, Sue Smee put an advertisement in Capital Xtra, Ottawa’s gay/lesbian newspaper, inviting lesbians who were interested in outdoor activities to meet at her home. Twelve women showed up and LOG was born.
For four years Sue led the group, promoting her vision of a loose network of women responsible and accountable for specific activities, with a Coordinating Committee providing overall leadership. In 2003, Sue was given an award by Capital Xtra for her contribution to the lesbian community of Ottawa-Gatineau. Over the years, many other women have also added their energy and talent to continue to grow and develop LOG. These include the eight to ten women who make up each year’s Coordinating Committee, elected by the membership to provide leadership and guidance to the organization.
